Difference between Used and Refurbished -Different Animal, Different Value

People often confuse refurbished and used conditions when it comes to buying products that are not new. There is a difference though, and quite a significant one!

Used products are typically stuff that has been used by people for a while, most likely it’s still functional, even though sometimes not all the features will work, but it still has a lot of useful life in it. That’s why people want to pass it on to the next owner, so the person can take advantage of the productivity. The important characteristics of used products are that they’re not up-to-date, for the most part as they have been acquired a while ago and have been used. Also, where they might not be in the same pristine condition as they were brand new, and will show signs of tear and wear.

refurbished products, on the other hand, are more likely to be the most recent product that was released to the market. They’re new, exciting, full of contemporary and current features that are sought by the consumer. Refurbished products are usually associated with the returns of the product that came back from a retailer and were recently sold. Keep in mind that many retailers still have the return policy place (and we are not talking about ultraliberal cost return policy where you can still bring something two years down the road and persuade the associate that the product was completely represented and still return it, or stories about Nordstrom taking tires from an elder lady who insisted that she bought them in the store two years ago). Usually customers have anywhere from 14 to 45 days to return the product they purchased from a retailer. Therefore, majority of the product will be current and up-to-date.

When you buy the product, it is important to make a difference between the two and understand the refurbished product represents significantly better value than used product. With refurbished  most of the time you will be getting the latest and the greatest (or very close to it, whereas with used it mostly comes to the utility. If it serves your needs, used might be a way to go, Refurbished - if you are looking for the late technology that fits your budget!
